Michael Buble’s Crazy Love Tour Front of House (FOH) Engineer, Craig Doubet, hosted nine South African engineers at his sound checks to observe and interact with him around the AVID VENUE Profile console on May 1. The two training sessions, arranged in partnership with AVL Distribution, focused on Doubet’s mixing techniques, plug-in processors and VENUE functionality.

The nine engineers were given an opportunity to watch the actual show from FOH. The FOH set-up for the Tour included a VENUE Profile work surface and FOH Rack, which was equipped with four Mix Engine cards for expanded processing power. It also comprised an FWx FireWire card for Pro Tools LE® integration, an IOx card for AES digital connectivity, and an ECx Ethernet Expansion card, which allowed Doubet to remotely control all console functions over a standard wired or wireless Ethernet connection.

Two Stage Racks, each outfitted with 48 analogue inputs, were used to accommodate Buble’s 13-piece band. One stage rack employed DSO cards for digital output and the other had SRO cards for analogue output.
Nick Matzukis of AVL Distribution, the South african distributor of AVID, found Doubet to be informative and accommodating.

“Craig’s vast knowledge of the VENUE Profile console goes without saying. His approachability, willingness to share knowledge and warmth towards the guests went way above and beyond the call of duty,’ he said. “The sound at the shows was awesome. Craig, using the VENUE Profile console, created an audio production value that can only be described as amazing.’

The engineers in attendance were Werner Nieman (Woord en Lewe Church), Tom Gordon (Gearhouse), Jonathan Green (Soundcorp), David Opperman (Magnetic Storm) and Patrick Dudgeon (Ultrasound).
