Global Rockstar, which is the world’s largest online music video contest, announced its winners on 21 December 2014, with Harman’s AKG awarding a variety of its world-class microphones and headphones to the top three winners.
Argentina’s Jhanniel who walked away with first prize, which was $25,000 (USD) in cash, as well as AKG’s C414 XLS matched pair stereo set, the Perception 820 Tube condenser microphone, K712 PROs reference studio headphones and the K240 MKII professional studio headphones. In second place was Ala Ghawas of Bahrain and in Third-Place was Laurin & Nico of Austria, who all won AKG live or recording packages including various microphones and headphones.
Global Rockstar began receiving entries from 1 September to 4 November, when one artist from each participating country was selected through user voting, more than 10 000 bands, solo artist, singer-songwriters and other artists from around the world uploaded their songs and videos to the Globalrockstar webpage. In addition, for each week until voting began on 1 September, an Artist of the Week won an AKG D5 microphone, while an Artist of the Month won an AKG WMS420 wireless microphone system every month. After an intense competition which involved heavy self-promotion by the artists, the final voting completed on 20 December.
Local artist Blaq Pearl was the entrant from South Africa. Her lyrics and music contains strong social content touching on controversial and tabooed issues and is about empowerment and real experiences, strength and motivation. She describes her music genre as a fusion of African / Soul / Hip Hop / Jazz / R&B.
