Southern African Communications Industries Association (SACIA) recently announced that they are running two courses under license from InfoComm International in June and July this year. From 27-29 June the company is organising the GEN111 AV Essentials class and during the following week (2-4 July) they are running the popular GEN112 CTS Prep class. Both courses are being presented by Nelson Baumgratz CTS-D.

“This will be Nelson’s third trip out to South Africa to deliver these courses and if feedback from his previous visits is anything to go by, participants are in for a great experience,’ says Kevan Jones CTS, Executive Director of SACIA.

The 3-day GEN111 AV Essentials course provides in-depth explanations of the science and technology for basic audio, visual and audiovisual systems integration. This course builds the student’s understanding of the fundamentals used on a daily basis in the audiovisual industry. It is also great prep for the students wanting to earn the InfoComm-recognised AV Technologist certificate.

The 3-day GEN112 CTS Prep class is designed to help prepare candidates as they prepare for InfoComm’s Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) credential. This credential is accredited by ANSI under the International Standard ISO/IEC 17024 General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification Schemes of Persons program. This popular course provides a forum for people to explore a wide range of topics relevant to the AV industry, and work collaboratively, studying the exam content areas with the help of facilitators.

“We also have a number of social events that we’re running during June and July. On 15 June we’re hosting a members networking breakfast at the Royal Natal Yacht Club in Durban, and on 3 July, we’ve partnered with the NAB organisation to host a networking breakfast for members in Gauteng. Cape-based members needn’t feel left out – on 20 July we’re hosting a breakfast at the Cape Town Lodge Hotel,’ Jones concludes.
