Wild & Marr, a leading distributor of professional audio and electronic products in South Africa, has recently announced their amalgamation with TOMS Sound and Music.

Wild & Marr are widely recognised as one of the most trusted and well-established professional AV distribution and technology companies in the country. Over the past few months, the company has been faced with a number of challenges and exciting opportunities, that promise to open up a new era in their business journey.


On 7 January 2019, the industry was deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Joe Copans at the age of 74. Copans served as managing director of Wild and Marr for over 25 years and was widely recognised as a mentor, visionary businessman and a stalwart of the industry.

Mark Gaylard, MD of MGG Productions states, “Joe was an inspiration and a role model to me in business and am one of many who was fortunate to have known him.” A sentiment echoed by DWR Distribution’s MD, Duncan Riley, who states “Joe was a true inspiration in my life. His legacy will be missed – a true icon in our market.”

According to Wild & Marr, Copans was in the process of negotiating an amalgamation with TOMS Sound & Music in the months ahead of his death – a deal that has finally come to fruition.


At the start of this year, a new company was formed, being Wild & Marr Solutions (Pty) Ltd

(WMS) and Gary Furman was appointed to the role of managing director. Furman, a 21-year industry stalwart explains: “With WMS, we are proud to say that the shareholder’s representation allows us to qualify for level 4 BEE. This opens up a whole new range of opportunities to compete in the market while supporting greater black economic participation.”

Furman is confident that the restructuring plan will serve the best interests of the company, its employees and clients. “We are committed, along with our sister companies, to delivering increased levels of service and support to the industry,” he points out.

Managing director of TOMS Sound and Music, Rudi Moser, states: “I would like to see the amalgamated company sharpening its focus in all departments. I would like to see us achieve deeper penetration into the market in South Africa and neighbouring countries, as well as realise synergistic benefits that will make our footprint larger in the industry – ensuring that the customer always comes out on top.”

Durbach, who is serving in the role of managing director for Wild & Marr, a division of TOMS Sound and Music, concurs, stating that: “I think that the strategy offers enormous potential for both companies going forward. If we strategise correctly and work together, it will be to the benefit of both companies, to our clients and the market in general.”
