A church in Accra, Ghana known as Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has purchased a GDS system from South African distributor, DWR Distribution, for their 20 000 seater church.

The church building has taken some 20 years to build and the brief from the client was simple, to have a lighting system that would not be flamboyant, but would provide white light for church services and for camera work, as many meetings are recorded for television. Johnny Scholtz from DWR Distribution was asked by GDS to oversee the project. “Power was something everyone had to consider when deciding on which product to utilize,’ says Scholtz. The power grid in Accra is often on for 12 hours and off for 24 hours and Deeper Christian Life Ministry runs off a large generator.

“GDS fixtures are energy efficient and don’t draw much power, we used the GDS ArcSystem Pro 4 Cell Round for the main auditorium, ArcSystem Decor Pro 1Cell for the Wings, and in the pulpit area the ArcSystem Pro 8 Cell and 4 Cell Squares. This was linked to ArcSystem 8 Button Panels which controlled the entire system,’ says Scholtz.

The church requested that their staff complete the installation. “Even though they were electricians they had never worked on a wireless system before,’ says Scholtz. He and John Blamey from GDS, provided training and guided the team on the installation. Paul Johnson from GDS designed the system.”They were very happy with the end result, GDS is an amazing product, and it’s backed up with a guarantee of 50 000 hours,’ comments Scholtz.
The GDS products used in the install, were ArcSystem Decor 1 Cell, ArcSystem Pro 4 Cell Round, ArcSystem Pro 8 Cell Square and ArcSystem 8 Button Panel.

ArcSystem 8 Button Panel
Providing direct recall for 8 of the 24 preset scenes stored in the ArcMesh transmitter, the 8 button panel utilises the ArcMesh network to communicate with ArcSystem fixtures meaning only mains power is required for each button panel to operate.
