Penn Elcom – pioneering innovation again – launches a new series of ingenious
space-saving Cavity Wall Racks designed for housing rack-based AV, IT and
communications equipment … in any usable void wall space.

Almost every building – whatever the style and era – will have a wall void of some
kind, explains Dave Roberts who heads up Penn’s R&D at Bristol.

Stairwells and loft spaces are the most common – however a plethora of other
“spare’ spaces are frequently created during building and refurbishment projects.
The Cavity Wall Rack can also be fitted into cupboards and closets … in fact, into
pretty much every imaginable place!

The very first Cavity Wall Racks were a custom design for a smart-home project – a
sector with huge potential for this product. The national house builder this was
originally designed for, now installs one in every new home built.

This design provided such a simple and effective outcome that Dave Roberts
decided to use the idea to develop a fully specified range of these Wall Racks to be
made available as an off-the-shelf commercial product, filling a gap in the market
for a robust and neat solution.

The range can be supplied in custom unit heights – and is available in a black or
cream finish as standard, complete with a smart, tinted-vision locking door to
protect against dust, dirt and most of all … tampering.

A pre-threaded M6 rack rail is recessed by 100 mm to allow for Cat 5 and 6 cable
management and also facilitates wireless hubs / routers to be positioned just behind
the glass door away from the main steel enclosure.

The racks are lightweight, made from 1.5 mm steel, are straightforward to fit and
designed to be mounted to stud walls in the case of a new build or a refurbishment.

They have the rugged and durable build and engineering qualities that are
characteristic to all Penn Elcom products and are manufactured in the UK.

Says Dave Roberts, “We’ve applied our knowledge and experience to develop a new
and currently unique product for the market, which will be useful for multiple
applications’.
