The Lyric Theatre recently purchased a number of Philips Selecon PL2CYC LED Luminaires from local distributors DWR at the behest of production co-ordinator Jolene Van Der Merwe. Van Der Merwe joined the Lyric Theatre in 2008 as a stage manager and is intimately involved with managing all production requirements for the shows there.
“I assist the stage manager with the day to day running of the backstage workings such as the scheduling of crew, liaising with our suppliers when we need to, servicing and repairing any equipment, purchasing new equipment to either replace or expand our existing in-house equipment and generally make sure that the team has everything they might need,’ says Van Der Merwe.
Since opening its doors in 2007, the Lyric Theatre has remained one of the best equipped theatres in the country. According to Van Der Merwe, this has been a result of keeping up to date with technical progress and “upgrading the facilities accordingly.”
“We are in the process of expanding the Lyric’s existing lighting rig,’ explains Van Der Merwe. “The PLCYC fixtures were the first step and I believe that it adds great production value to our clients. [They] were included in the recent production of My Favourite Swings (The CoLab Network presents Johannesburg Big Band).”
