Edith Unlimited recently organised the first Discovery Graduation ceremony, which was held at Vodaworld’s Vodadome in Midrand. Full technical for the in-house event, that had 260 attendees, was provided by MJ Event Gear.

According to production manager, Theo Roodt, the team had to test the venue’s LED pillars and projectors as part of their pre-production work to avoid any glitches on the evening. The venue, tables and chairs were draped in white and were washed in colour using Robe 600 LED fixtures.

“Edith Unlimited gave us complete creative freedom to carry out the lighting design,’ he said. “The brief was to change the lighting colours to enhance the video footage projected onto screens.’

The ceremony incorporated 16 x 9 format footage and camera work, projected by a Barco 14k HD Projector onto a 8m x 4.5m centre screen.

The lighting included 24 x Robe 600 LED Washes, 6 x MMXs positioned next to the centre screen and used to create a textured back-drop, and 12 x Thomas Pixel Pars.

“Our head lighting designer – Francois van der Merwe, ran the show on a grandma and the venues’ Anolis pillars he was also responsible for changing the tones to compliment the gig,’ concluded Roodt.
