A new entry-level microphone range offering exceptional performance, updated and extended entry-level microphones with advanced design features for each specific sound application and engineering excellence, was introduced by Shure.

The user-friendly PG Alta line covers all the needs of entry-level live performers and recording musicians, giving the budget-conscious the opportunity of sounding like professionals from day one.

“Shure has updated its PG-series microphones, giving them an advanced industrial design for improved product handling, introducing new models for special applications, such as the PGA98H for wind instruments and the PGA98D for drums,” comments Ron Hautzinger, Shure EMEA’s Pro audio and retail product manager.

The PG Alta range offers two microphones specifically developed for vocalists. The PGA48 is a rugged microphone adapted for speech and karaoke applications, while the PGA58 is designed for lead and backing vocals, with a sound signature inspired by the sound of the legendary SM58.

Other microphones in the new range are respectively tailored for use with instruments, such as PGA57, which is designed for use with electric guitar and bass, while the PGA81 is a fitting partner for acoustic guitar or strings, and also works superbly as an overhead for instrument recording.
The new PGA181 also works well on all instruments, precisely capturing piano and ensembles for live or recording applications, and the PGA98H has been specially developed for live sound reproduction or recording of woodwind, brass and saxophones.

Drummers and percussionists have also been catered for: the PGA52 is designed just for them, for kick drums, while the PGA56 reproduces snares and toms with clarity and presence. The new PGA98D, with its flexible gooseneck design for easy positioning, provides another adaptable option for the capture of drums and percussion in live and recording contexts. Rather than assembling a series of microphones one at a time, drummers can also purchase PG Alta kits, containing everything required to mike up drums. PGADRUMKIT4 includes one PGA52, two PGA56s, one PGA57, and mounts and cables. The more extensive PGA Drum Kit 6 includes a PGA52, two PGA56s, a PGA57, and a pair of PGA81s, plus mounts and cables.

Last but not least, there’s the PGA27, which is a very sensitive microphone for home studio use, capturing vocalists and instruments with great detail and precision.
For the South African market, the PG ALTA range will ship in the third quarter of 2015.
