Local technical supply company Sound Stylists recently placed an order for a complete L-Acoustics K2 system to bolster their current inventory through local L-Acoustics distributors, Sound Harmonics.
The K2 is essentially a scaled down version of L-Acoustics’s highly successful full-size K1 line array system in a compact 12-inch format. It features equivalent SPL and bandwidth to the famed V-DOSC system, 10 degree inter-element flexibility and 100% acoustic and rigging compatibility with the K1 and K1-SB. The K2 offers a 70/100 degree symmetrical and a 90 degree asymmetrical dispersion characteristic while the LA8-driven LA-RAK drives, protects and processes the system.
Sound Stylists purchased 24 K2 elements, eight dual-15-inch K1-SB subwoofers and 16 SB28 dual-18-inch subwoofers.
“Basically we needed another PA,’ explains Kevin Glover, director at Sound Stylists. “We wanted something that was more rider-driven than what we currently stock so it was an economic decision more than anything else. However, we also needed something to handle our day to day operations.’
Glover was also attracted to the L-Acoustics because, according to him, when you buy L-Acoustics, you’re not just buying loudspeakers; you’re buying a system.
“You’re buying into their philosophy and not just a speaker, all the way down to the speaker cables’ elaborates Glover. “Richard (Smith of Sound Harmonics) and I went out to France and sat with the guys L-Acoustics where we painted the picture of what we wanted and they gave us recommendations. They showed us what the boxes were about and what we would have to buy. Also, included with the purchase is training so, once again, you’re not just buying a box; you’re trained properly on the product. It’s like buying a high performance sports car where you have to have the advanced training as well.’
