During the Vivid Sydney 2016 festival, the famous Museum of Contemporary Art
Australia (MCA) in The Rocks will not merely house fantastic works of art, but
become a giant canvas for the energy of the creative process. Multimedia art
collective, Danny Rose, teams up with Western Sydney Artist, Huseyin Sami, to
create an illusion of the MCA façade being carved, painted, cut and brushed.

Sami’s focus is to playfully explore ideas associated with the material nature of
paint and the process of making art. Danny Rose used several techniques to
perfectly capture Sami’s art making presentation including his choreographed and
expressionistic gestures.

Three-dimensional animation, motion design, stop motion and edited video footage
were used to make this masterpiece a reality. Immersive sound design and music
merge with the visual effects to provide a true multi-sensory experience.

Sami said: “I’ve always loved painting, its form and consistency. The transformation
that Danny Rose has created takes painting to a whole new level and adds a totally
different quality. Discussions began six months ago and it’s great to finally see the
results at Vivid.’

Danny Rose specialises in creating and realising supersized audiovisual shows,
multimedia experiences and architectural mapping. Each night until June 18,
audiences will visit the Museum’s Sculpture Terrace and enjoy a constantly
morphing contemporary art installation performance that will completely transform
perceptions of the MCA architecture.

Sergio Carruba at Danny Rose said: “The Danny Rose installation this year
transforms the Sydney’s MCA façade into a huge canvas where the different
qualities of paint are explored. Every night the audience will experience a
constantly morphing contemporary art installation-performance as if it were really
happening before their eyes.’

The technology and projection mapping expertise is provided by TDC – Technical
Direction Company and Olin Winton, technical manager said: “Our skilled technical
staff achieved the best and most colourful outcome to map the artistic content to
the MCA building.’

Elizabeth Ann Mcgregor OBE, Director at MCA, said: “We are delighted that
Australian artists continue to be involved in the creation of the MCA’s façade
projection. Embracing new technology and the material of paint, the collaboration
between MCA Collection artist Huseyin Sami and Danny Rose is one of the true
highlights of Vivid Sydney.’
