From late May to early July the nights are bright in St. Petersburg, this period is
called the White Nights (Beliye Nochi), a curious phenomenon caused by St.
Petersburg’s very northerly geographical location. It’s also the period that St.
Petersburg organizes one of the largest festivals in its kind, dedicated to music,
opera, ballet, film and outdoor celebrations, like the Scarlet Sails, a tall ship and
fireworks show along the Neva.
The Stars of the White Nights Festival is considered among the ten best music
festivals in the world today and among the most popular and diverse musical events
in Russia. Running alongside all these festivities is the Classic Music on Palace
Square festival, which is part of the official “Day of the City’ celebration, promoted
by Oasis Company. This years’ festival kicked off with a performance of Anna
Netrebko, on the Hermitage Square.
Staging professional StagePro were asked to design and provide the staging for this
prestigious event. StagePro has wide experience as staging company, building on
long-term cooperation both its customers and suppliers, such as Layher and Prolyte.
They can boast a wide experience in large events, such as the Scarlet Sails, St.
Petersburg Economic Forum and the White Nights.
For this particular event StagePro designed a stage based on a Prolyte ST roof
system, with measurements of 20 x 28 metres, a transparent roof and two side
stage wings. A huge chandelier decorated the mid stage area, giving it a dramatic
look and feel.
StagePro owns a large stock of Prolyte equipment, as Alexander Korchagin,
Managing Director, comments: “We have worked with Prolyte equipment for many
years, I’m still convinced it’s the best brand in the market. My crew really likes
working with Prolyte, the fit is perfect and such a complex system as this roof can
be built in a record time. We just can rely on it to perform’.
