There was much excitement at African installation leader, Prosound, this week as
the Audio Technical Team, under the influence of a clearly delighted Mark Malherbe,
prepared for the arrival of their new Meyer Sound LEOPARD line array – the most
versatile of the LEO family, and the first of the system to be delivered in Southern
Africa.
While marvelling at the size of the 1100-LFC floor subs being delivered at the Stores
area of their Johannesburg Head Office, the Prosound team viewed the 12 boxes
labelled “LEOPARD’ with suspicion that such a condensed array delivers such a
substantial sound pressure level with such quality and control.
An amalgam of paradoxes, the LEOPARD brings power with nuanced sound detail;
its compact size still allowing for a simple rig and connection.
The ease of a self-powered system is definitely an attraction, and with this, the UPA
of line arrays, it’s as if the system self-adjusts to each environment, its easy
control of resonant frequencies giving the consistent expectation of an even sound
in any application. The Meyer engineers have definitely surpassed the challenge
that was presented to them; the designing of an ideal loudspeaker – one which
would reproduce sound which a listener would find indistinguishable from that
coming directly from a sound source. The LEOPARD’s wide horizontal dispersion due
to the unique crossing arrangement of its drivers, leads to Prosound’s belief that
this line array is the perfect solution for a variety of applications. And this echoes
the number of awards the LEOPARD has already won since its launch in April of last
year, most recently the TEC for Best Loudspeaker at NAMM. Infocomm 2015
awarded the LEOPARD the Pro Audio Group Best of Show Award as a product that
showed the highest perceived value including ROI, total cost of ownership, richness
of the feature set, ease-of-use reliability, versatility and demonstrated
performance.
Having used Meyer Sound products throughout the world, Mark Malherbe is fully
convinced of the massive future impact the LEOPARD will have on the industry.
Prosound’s Audio GM, Lee Thomson, has just heard the LEOPARD in action at Meyer
Sound’s offices in Berkley, California, and agrees that it is a game-changer.
Prosound is planning initial select demonstrations at specific venues, chosen to
showcase the impact of the LEOPARD, after which presentations will be made
throughout the regions in which the company is based. Interested parties can
