Harman’s Martin Professional announced the kick-off of their annual Young Lighting Designer Contest that offers aspiring LDs from around the world an opportunity to have their work internationally recognised.

The winner will be awarded an all-inclusive trip to the Prolight+Sound 2015 show in Frankfurt, Germany, the Martin M-Touch controller and an M-PC kit. The runner up will also receives an M-Touch controller and third place will win an M-PC kit. To enter the competition, the young LDs must design and program a DMX lightshow using M-PC to a music track of their choice and submit a video recording to the Martin Professional Facebook contest page. Contestants can share the video to their own social networks and throughout the contest friends, colleagues, and other Facebook users can vote for their favourite shows.

The three shows with the most votes will enter the final stage of the contest. A panel of judges made up of last year’s contest winner, Garou Blancan and Martin’s Global application engineer, Theis Wermuth, as well as senior product specialist, Michael Feldmann, and product manager for Controllers, Paul Pelletier will then deliberate and pick the final winner.

“The contest was a major starting point in my career as a professional lighting designer,’ says Blancan. “Out of the many opportunities that arose in the wake of the contest, there are two highlights, I was granted an opportunity to design a tour for a Canadian artist from Quebec; Marie Elaine, and I also got to design an architectural lighting system for the Rialto Theatre facade, which was featured on the cover of a major industry publication.’

Contestants have until 30 March to submit their work and the 2015 winner will be announced at the Martin Prolight+Sound stand on 15 April at 13h00.
