BC Electronics, a leading retail outlet for the live entertainment industry in Cape Town will be hosting its first ever Gospel Band Competition between 9 June and 7 July at their state-of-the-art in-house demonstration space in Parow.
Speaking to Pro-Systems in a recent telephone interview, general manager at BC Electronics, Astrid Castle explained that the company has decided to create this opportunity for Gospel bands as BC Electronics enjoys long-standing relationships with many churches in the area, having supplied them with the equipment needed to deliver worship services for some years. “We felt that this would be a great way to give back to the community. The event not only provides the opportunity for the Gospel community to showcase their considerable talent but also offers prizes valued at R114 000,” Castle points out.
Following an initial entry process, which closed in May, twelve Gospel bands have been selected to compete over four consecutive Saturdays for their fans and a panel of judges that will evaluate participants on their creativity, technical skill, stage presence, vocal delivery and crowd response. The top three bands will then compete in a final to be held on 7 July.
The BC Electronics Gospel Band Competition is being supported by some of the country’s leading equipment distributors. For the first place prize, Viva Afrika has provided a Hybrid+ Powered Atlas combo speaker system valued at R75 000. For the band in second place, MIDI Music has provided a Marshall Code 100 guitar amp, an Ibanez GS270 electric guitar and a Tama Rhythm Mate drum kit valued at 30 000. Wild&Marr have contributed three Shure SM58 corded microphones, valued at R9000, for the third place prize. “We are enormously grateful to the sponsors who have been so generous in their support of this event,” Castle concludes.
