Now in its fourth year, the annual Live Sound International and ProSoundWeb.com Readers Choice Awards is fast becoming a key signifier of the best technology in the North American professional audio market. With strong competition in all categories, Alcons Audio is very pleased that the BC332 high output cardioid subwoofer has been announced as one of the winners.
Over 9200 votes were cast in the 2013 Awards and the announcement of the Alcons BC332 – which only went into production last year – as a winner proved that it has already made a real impact in the industry.
Following in the footsteps of the bigger BC543, and designed for both permanent and portable ground-stacked applications, the BC332 offers a directivity controlled, high output, tight and accurate sub-bass response. In combination with dedicated processing, a front (18′) and rear (15′) woofer configuration enables selectable cardioid low-frequency pattern control and excellent rear rejection (up to 18dB), without the need for additional cabinets.
The front loudspeaker’s X-Venting™ reflex port takes more than 20% of the baffle surface and is designed to maximise the system’s breathing capacity, substantially increasing overall output while minimising port-compression. Meanwhile the rear driver’s Flank-Venting™ port enables optimal reflex-breathing with minimal baffle dimensions, reducing destructive interference between speaker and reflex vent. The frequency response starts at 35Hz (-3dB) and offers a colourless low frequency enhancement of any Alcons pro-ribbon sound system.
As with all Alcons loudspeaker systems, the BC332 is Signal Integrity Sensing™ (SIS) pre-wired for a very high damping factor. Through this circuit, the cable length and connector resistance between the BC332 and its powering ALC amplified loudspeaker controller is dynamically compensated for. The controlled cone-travel results in a very clean and tight bass response, as perfect match with the fast-transient pro-ribbon mid/high transducers.
“The most valuable endorsement of a product is that which comes from fellow sound professionals and the end user,’ says Alcons co-founder Tom Back. “The North American audio industry has a profound influence around the globe and we are thrilled that the BC332 has been recognised in this way.
“Awards like this help spur us on to develop ever-better and more efficient loudspeaker and pro-ribbon transducer technology, meaning that audiences always have the best possible experience.’
