Black Coffee was recently sub-contracted by Kingston Sound in Durban to provide
the lighting equipment for The Jesus Culture Conference, held in Johannesburg,
Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
The focus of this conference is to encounter Jesus through worship, equip a
generation for revival through preaching and ministry and then to send people back
to their cities and campuses to bring Kingdom transformation through a supernatural
lifestyle.
According to Simon Hampton from Black Coffee, a relaxed atmosphere prevailed
during the tour from city to city.
“Apart from the rented truck having a blow out on the way to Cape Town, which the
rental company attended to extremely well and which meant the kit still arrived on
time, there was no major stresses,’ said Hampton.
“The biggest challenge, really, was trying to replicate the original design in venues
not really suited to something of that scale and working within the budget. The
Lighting Designer, Robby Kurtz from Sightline Productions, USA, was very
accommodating in this regard.’
The gig incorporated 20 x Robin 600 LED Wash, 20 x Robe ColorSpot 575s, 6 x Atomic
Strobes, 8 x 8 Lite Molefay, 8 x ETC 15/30 Profiles, 8 x 1K Philips Selecon Rama
Fresnels, 3 x Avolites Power Cubes, 2 x Le Maitre MVS Hazers and 1 x Martin M1 desk
(sub-hired from Solid Rock).
“I was well impressed with the reliability of the 575s.The Robins 600s were bright,
light and quick, and the Avolites Power Cubes were handy,’ commented Hampton.
There is always a feeling of satisfaction at the end of the day, and for Hampton this
was due to completing all four successful shows without encountering any hitches.
“From my perspective we had a pretty smooth run, everyone was relaxed, the
lighting looked great and the shows were well received,’ he concluded.
